Getting this done for free
Everything we do can be done for nothing. Here is exactly where to go, and what the free route is actually like.
The DWP claim line
0800 731 0122, Monday to Friday. They will post the form out, and the date you ring counts as the date of claim if the form comes back within six weeks. They will not help you word it.
Age UK
Local Age UK branches help people fill this form in, free of charge, and they are good at it. Availability varies by area and there can be a wait — in some places a few days, in others several weeks. Start at ageuk.org.uk or ring the Age UK Advice Line on 0800 678 1602.
Citizens Advice
Free, independent, and they will also check whether other things are being missed — Pension Credit, Council Tax Reduction, help with heating. Find your local office at citizensadvice.org.uk.
Carers UK and local carers' centres
If you are filling the form in for someone you look after, your local carers' centre will often do it with you, and will know the local assessors.
So why would anyone pay us?
Time and certainty, and nothing else. We ring at a time that suits, we do the whole thing in one sitting, we write it in the language the form is scored on, and you read it before it goes anywhere. That is worth £349 to some people and worth nothing to others, and both answers are reasonable.
What we will not do is pretend the free route does not exist, or make it sound harder than it is. If you have the patience and a local branch with capacity, use them.
Who we are
We are a private company. We are not the Department for Work and Pensions, we are not a charity, and we are not connected to any government body. You sign and send your own claim — it stays yours from start to finish.
